“Local Color” by artists Kitty Kerner and Rachel O'Meara.

Both artists hail from Stratford, NH, and their joint show includes art work in a range of media: Rachel O’Meara is an oil painter and printmaker, Kitty Kerner is a photographer. Although they utilize different media, they share a love of local landscape and nature.

Rachel grew up in rural New England, left for a few years, then returned. Primarily self-taught, she has been engaged with art-making for over thirty five years. She enjoys plein air oil painting, and woodcut/linocut print making, but has been known to dabble in watercolor and always has pencil and paper at the ready. A quote from George Gershwin guides her work: “Melodic. Nothing Neutral. Utter simplicity. Directness.”

Kitty grew up in New England and Germany and has lived in both countries for extensive periods. She’s had a knack for photography from an early age, as both her father and grandfather where avid photographers. She likes to focus on landscapes as well as taking shots from odd angles that give viewers fresh perspectives. Close-ups and all things natural, especially plants, also feature strongly in her work.

Their works can be seen at the Tillotson Center from Aug 5 through August 31.

Admission to the Gallery is free.
